Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS PELVIC FLOOR THERAPY?

Pelvic floor therapy is a physical therapy specialty focusing on rehabilitation of the pelvic floor muscles. Pelvic floor therapy can be used to address (i) muscle weakness or tightness, (ii) prenatal postpartum concerns including preparing for childbirth, and (iii) bowel, bladder, and/or sexual dysfunction.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT ON MY FIRST IN-PERSON VISIT?

On your first visit, we are focused on learning more about you and what brought you to pelvic floor therapy. We will discuss your concerns as well as your medical history. If appropriate and you feel comfortable, a pelvic floor muscle examination is typically performed; this will help us assess your pelvic floor muscle strength, tone and other pathologies.

HOW DO I KNOW IF PELVIC FLOOR PHYSICAL THERAPY IS RIGHT FOR ME?

Many people can benefit from pelvic floor physical therapy. Generally, you may benefit from pelvic floor physical therapy if you have bowel, bladder or sexual dysfunction. Additionally if you are pregnant, postpartum or have difficulty with your menstrual cycle, pelvic floor therapy may help alleviate your symptoms. If you’re unsure if pelvic floor therapy is right for you, you can schedule a discovery call with me to discuss.

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

I can provide a superbill for you to submit for reimbursement.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU SEE CLIENTS?

This depends on the client’s needs. Some clients benefit from sessions as often as weekly and others may be more appropriate for a less frequent maintenance program. This can be determined during our initial evaluation and we may adjust your visit cadence over time.

DO YOU SEE CLIENTS VIRTUALLY?

Yes! Some clients prefer to meet virtually and can still benefit from pelvic floor physical therapy.

WHAT KIND OF HEALTH CONDITIONS DO YOU WORK WITH?

I work with clients who have bowel, bladder or sexual dysfunction, difficulty with their menstrual cycle, are pregnant/postpartum or have pelvic pain.

HOW LONG IS EACH VISIT?

Initial evaluations are one hour. In-person follow-up sessions are one hour. Virtual follow-up sessions are forty-five minutes.
